Aldenham School, Founded 1597

Why a British Education is a Passport to the World

Providing our pupils quality teaching through the British curriculum is proven to open many doors for their future success.  With Aldenham being founded on 425 years of academic excellence, and all our teachers having British-based diplomas, parents can feel certain that their children’s education is in the best possible hands.

There are three main international curriculums: the British curriculum, the American Schools System and the International Baccalaureate. Amongst these three, the British curriculum is considered to be the most well-known and respected. Since its establishment in 1988, it’s now globally recognised and utilised in over 160 countries. For decades, parents from around the world have been sending their children to schools in the UK, and with the opening of Aldenham Prep Riyadh, we can now bring the same quality education to the Middle East.

As the national director of the UK’s Boarding Schools’ Association, Hilary Moritary, says: “British qualifications are a currency and you can trade them across the world.” Whilst it may be too early for our young pupils to be thinking about university applications, giving your child a British education opens up a world of possibilities. When the time comes for our pupils to decide on further education, they’re unlikely to face any entry barriers to fulfilling their dreams.

The British curriculum is divided into four mandatory key stages, reflecting the pupils’ level in education. For those in key stage one (Lower School), this is their first experience of structured schooling, and where the fundamentals, such as reading and numeracy are taught. As pupils progress to key stage two (Upper School), they build on those foundations and expand their knowledge, which are essential in their preparation for key stages three and four.

Broad and Balanced

What makes this system of education so popular and well-renowned? Children educated under the British curriculum are taught a broad range of topics with a balanced approach. In addition to the core subjects such as maths, science and English, pupils are also provided lessons in humanities and the arts. Although structured, it has the advantage of being adaptable to suit different abilities (such as those who require extra guidance), and communities outside of the UK, such as ours.

Personal development is at the heart of a British-based education, and this is evident in its nurturing and supportive approach. Whilst academia and examinations are a crucial aspect of the British curriculum, it’s equally as important for pupils to develop a strong sense of independence and vital life skills.

We have built upon those ideas with our unique all-round and holistic approach to education, where we are committed to developing the child as a whole. We provide the means and opportunities for pupils to flourish in all aspects and environments, such as extra-curricular activities where teachings are enhanced, interests are fostered and a love for learning is strengthened.

Learning the Language

The English language is the largest to be spoken by both native and non-native speakers, with an estimated 1.35 billion people fluent in the language. It’s viewed as the universal language of the world, and is a highly favoured skill from universities and employers. At Aldenham Prep Riyadh, pupils are encouraged to develop their multi-linguistic abilities, with all classes taught in English, as well as opportunities to learn Arabic and Spanish.

Besides opening many doors for pupils’ futures, learning languages also plays a significant role in cognitive development, such as improved memory, and in creating a connection with other cultures.

Equipped for the Future

Throughout their time at school, children gain an in-depth understanding of the world, and respect for its many cultures. This is a significant aspect of the British curriculum, as it’s not just about academic success, but also about nurturing pupils to grow as empathetic and moral individuals.

At Aldenham Prep Riyadh, we are dedicated to ensuring pupils leave school with the confidence and resilience to succeed in whatever path they choose. Our decision to implement the British curriculum has presented our pupils limitless opportunities for further education and career choices, setting them up for future successes.

Aldenham UK

Aldenham UK - and all of our schools - embodies the best of timeless traditions and universal values, along with a documented history of a forward-thinking culture that’s served to differentiate us from our peers.

At Aldenham, we remember that achievement is an individual matter - whether that’s entry to an Oxbridge college, a sporting or cultural goal, or simply growing up into a well-balanced individual. Dedicated teaching is at the heart of everything we do. While we help our pupils to focus on their own plans, our teachers focus on our pupils.
