Job Overview
The Music Teacher will be a specialist educator responsible for delivering a dynamic and engaging music curriculum to students from Nursery to Year 8. This role requires a passion for music education and a commitment to making music a high-profile subject within the school. The teacher will also contribute to the school's Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) programme, support the formation of choirs, bands, and orchestras, and have the opportunity to teach individual instrumental lessons.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality music lessons across all year groups from Nursery to Year 8, ensuring alignment with the UK National Curriculum.
- Inspire a love of music by introducing students to a variety of musical genres, instruments, and performance opportunities.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying musical abilities and backgrounds.
- Lead and support the formation of school choirs, bands, orchestras, and other musical ensembles.
- Organise and participate in school concerts, performances, and musical events, making music a vibrant and integral part of school life.
- Actively contribute to the school's CCA programme by offering engaging musical activities and clubs.
- Offer and facilitate individual and small-group instrumental lessons for students who wish to develop their musical skills further.
- Collaborate with other staff members to integrate music into cross-curricular learning experiences.
- Encourage students to take part in external music competitions, exams, and performances.
- Maintain high expectations for student engagement, creativity, and discipline, upholding the school’s values and ethos.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, performance opportunities, and musical development.
- Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in either Violin or piano (ideally both) with more than 2 years of experience teaching the instrument.
- They will be expected to prepare students for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examinations.

They should have sufficient theory knowledge to confidently challenge pupils.
- A degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching music across a broad age range, ideally from Early Years to Key Stage 3.
- Ability to teach a range of instruments and vocal techniques.
- Experience in leading choirs, bands, orchestras, or other musical ensembles.
- A commitment to making music an integral and high-profile part of school life.
- Strong organisational skills for planning performances and events.
