Curiosity, Character and Community: Reflections from Week 20
From inspiring visits and sporting pride to charitable action and academic focus, a week that reflects our shared values.

Week 20 has been a wonderful reflection of everything we value at Aldenham Prep School Riyadh: curiosity, creativity, resilience and community.

Across the school, pupils have been learning beyond the classroom, discovering new talents and supporting one another with enthusiasm and kindness. Moments like these remind us that education is not only about academic progress, it is about developing confident, compassionate young people who are ready to engage with the world.

We were delighted to welcome parents to an Art Workshop on Monday morning, led by Mrs Rebecca Lucas. This excellent and engaging session highlighted the importance of creativity in learning and strengthened our partnership with families. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this inspiring event.

Learning continued beyond the classroom this week, with Year 5 enjoying an inspiring visit to the King Salman Science Oasis on Sunday and Monday, and Year 6 visiting La Fabrique. These experiences help pupils deepen curiosity, collaborate with peers and make powerful real-world connections.

Sport has also been a highlight, with Football and Dodgeball fixtures taking place. Well done to all pupils who represented the school with determination and pride, supported by our dedicated PE team.

Creativity has truly shone across the school, and we are very much looking forward to the Aldenham’s Got Talent Finals today. Pupils have shown courage, imagination and confidence, and we extend our thanks to Mrs Meghan Brokensha for organising this wonderful celebration of pupil voice and leadership, along with all staff who have supported the event.

The heats took place from Sunday 1st to Thursday 5th February, followed by exciting semi- finals on 8th and 9th February, with the grand finals held on 12th February. We were delighted to see such enthusiastic participation from Nursery right through to Year 8.

Looking ahead, Mid-Year Examinations for Years 7 and 8 begin on Monday. We wish all pupils every success and thank families for the encouragement and reassurance you provide at home. Calm support and positive conversations help children approach challenges with confidence.

Ramadan is also expected to begin next week, likely on Tuesday 17th February. As we enter this Holy Month leading up to Eid, we recognise its importance for many families in our community. Ramadan is a time of reflection, generosity and spiritual growth, and we thank everyone for the understanding and kindness shown during this special period.

Educational psychologist Carol Dweck reminds us: “Becoming is better than being.”

We see this growth mindset every day in our pupils, in their willingness to try, to learn from mistakes and to keep moving forward within a rigorous British international school environment that values academic excellence, character development and global citizenship.

Weeks like this remind us that Aldenham is more than a school. As a leading British international school in Riyadh, it is a community where children are encouraged to grow, lead, create and care for one another, supported by strong pastoral care and a future-focused British curriculum.
