Aldenham UK

Founded in 1597

Founded in 1597 under the charter of Queen Elizabeth I, Aldenham School stands among the oldest continuously operating schools in the world. For more than four centuries it has delivered a distinctive British independent education built on academic excellence, character development and the belief that education should nurture the whole child.
From its earliest days, Aldenham was known for its progressive outlook. While many schools of the time focused almost entirely on classical study, Aldenham recognised that education should develop mind, body and character together. Activities such as sport and physical training were incorporated alongside academic study, establishing a philosophy of all-round education that continues to define the school today.
Located just north of London, the historic campus has educated generations of pupils on the same site for more than 428 years, blending tradition with a forward-thinking approach to learning. This long continuity of place, values and educational purpose gives Aldenham a distinctive identity within British independent education.
An Aldenham education combines the wisdom of tradition with a modern global outlook. The school prepares pupils not only for academic success but for lives of leadership, service and personal fulfilment.

A Tradition of All-Round Education

At the heart of Aldenham’s philosophy is the belief that education must extend beyond academic results.
The school has long emphasised:
  • Intellectual curiosity and academic discipline
  • Character, integrity and responsibility
  • Sporting, artistic and cultural achievement
  • Strong pastoral care and community spirit
This commitment to developing well-balanced individuals remains central to the Aldenham ethos and continues to influence all schools within the Aldenham Education Group.

A Legacy that Continues in Riyadh

Aldenham Prep School Riyadh forms part of the same educational tradition, drawing directly from the values, philosophy and academic standards established by Aldenham School in the United Kingdom.
Families joining Aldenham in Riyadh become part of a heritage that spans more than four centuries of British independent education, linking pupils not only to a historic school in London but also to a global community of Aldenhamians.
Importantly, pupils in Riyadh benefit from a recognised transfer pathway to Aldenham School in the United Kingdom. Students from the Riyadh campus receive priority consideration as transfer applicants, rather than joining the standard waiting list process often experienced by new applicants. This connection enables families to access a genuine international school network and provides flexibility for pupils who may wish to continue their education within the Aldenham system in the UK.
