Sport at APSR
A Tradition of Sport and Character
Sport has always been central to the Aldenham philosophy of education. Inspired by more than four centuries of British independent school tradition, physical activity at Aldenham Prep School Riyadh is designed to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership alongside academic excellence.
Our sporting programme reflects the belief that education should develop the whole child: mind, body and character. Through structured Physical Education lessons, team sports and co-curricular activities, pupils learn discipline, perseverance and respect while enjoying the benefits of an active lifestyle.
Sport at Aldenham is not simply about competition. It is about building character, developing healthy habits and creating experiences that help children grow in confidence and determination.
A Historic Sporting Legacy
Aldenham’s commitment to sport is deeply rooted in history. Football has been part of Aldenham School life since the earliest days of the modern game.
In 1825, Aldenham became one of the first educational institutions to formally establish a set of rules for football, helping shape the development of the sport itself. The school’s football club, founded in 1825, is recognised in the historic Football Annual of 1873 as one of the earliest organised football clubs in the world.
Alongside institutions such as Eton and Harrow, Aldenham played a role in the early formation of the Laws of the Game that govern football today. This remarkable heritage places Aldenham among the schools that helped shape the global sport enjoyed by billions of people worldwide.
This legacy continues to inspire the sporting culture across the Aldenham Education Group today.

Founded in 1597, Aldenham UK is the flagship of the Aldenham Foundation and is steeped in history, with over 428 years of academic excellence. Aldenham UK - and all of our schools - embodies the best of timeless traditions and universal values, along with a documented history of a forward-thinking culture that’s served to differentiate us from our peers.
At Aldenham, we remember that achievement is an individual matter - whether that’s entry to an Oxbridge college, a sporting or cultural goal, or simply growing up into a well-balanced individual. Dedicated teaching is at the heart of everything we do. While we help our pupils to focus on their own plans, our teachers focus on our pupils.
